A tsunami is also called a tidal wave or
seismic sea wave. A tsunami occurs when a large body of water is displaced.
The resulting wave may travel for long distances until it reaches land. Then the
tidal wave will continue across the land for several miles. A tsunami may be the
result of an earthquake, underwater explosion, glacier or meteor. Tidal waves
are extremely dangerous as they destroy everything in their path.
