1779...Early Revolutionary war hero Benedict Arnold's Court Martial convenes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

1938...Superman makes his appearance in the Comic Books.

1968...Helen Keller dies.  Helen Keller, blind and death from infancy, overcome her disabilities to become a lecturer and world renown writer.

1980...The world's first 24-hour television network, CNN (Cable News Network), makes its debut.


 June 2nd

President Grover Cleveland

President Grover Cleveland

1774...The British Parliament renews the Quartering Act, allowing British Red Coat Soldiers to stay in private American homes.

1886...President Grover Cleveland becomes the first sitting President to marry in the White House.  He left office with 2 children.

1924...The United States Congress confers citizen shop on all Native born Indians born within territorial limits of the country.


 June 3rd

President John Adams

1800...The 2nd President of the United States, John Adams, moves from Philadelphia to reside in Washington, D.C.

1956...Santa Cruz California, a beach town 70 miles south of San Francisco, bans Rock 'n Roll music.

1965...Major Edward White opens the hatch of his Gemini 4 capsule and steps out to become the first American astronaut to walk in space.


 June 4th

1876...A transcontinental express train leaves New York City arriving in San Francisco in a mere 83 hours.

1896...In the shed behind his home, at about 4 PM, Henry Ford tests drive his first automobile he calls his Quadricycle.

1919...Congress passes the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution guaranteeing women the right to vote.

1967...Israel launches counter attacks against Egypt, Syria and Jordan in the Middle East 6 Day War, which doubled the size of Israel.

1968...Presidential candidate, Senator Robert Kennedy, is assassinated in Los Angeles, CA after winning the California presidential primary.

2002...A 14-year old girl, Elizabeth Smart, is kidnapped from her family's Salt Lake City home.  She is later recovered on March 12, 2003.


 June 6th

The Invasion of Normandy  "D-Day"

1933...The construction on Boulder Dam is started.  It will take 3 years to construct what will become the tallest dam in the world.

1933...In Camden, New Jersey, the world's first drive-in movie theater is opened.

1944...A million allied troops land on the beaches of Normandy, France for a massive invasion of Europe called "Operation Overlord" (D-Day).

Ronald Reagan

1966...Former Hollywood actor Ronald Reagan, enters politics when he is elected governor of California for 2 terms, and later becomes 2-term president of the United States.

1982...Five years after the death of Elvis Presley his mansion Graceland is opened to the public. 

2012...A large dock washes up on the coast of Oregon having been torn away from a Japanese port after the 2011 Japanese 9.0 earthquake and tsunami.


 June 8th



1874...Apache Indian chief, Cochise, dies on the Chiricahua Reservation in Southeastern Arizona.

1984...The now classic comedy Ghostbusters, starring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd,  is released in  theaters across the US. 

2001...Tropical storm Allison hits Huston and travels up to New England, causing five billion dollars in damages.


 June 9th

Mormon Handcart Pioneers

1534...The St. Lawrence River is discovered by Jacques Cartier of France.

1793...Secretariat wins the Triple Crown.

1856...Mormon handcart companies begin their trek west to Salt Lake City.  Over the next four years about 3,000 people would make this journey by handcart.

1752...Benjamin Franklin flies his kite during a thunder and demonstrates the electrical nature of lightning.

1935...Alcoholic Anonymous is founded by a New York Broker and an Ohio physician, both recovering alcoholics.

1949...Italy declares war on France and Great Britain.

1949...Norway surrenders to the Germans.
