Alaska is bear country. More than
40,000 brown bears (Grizzlies) and 100,000 black bears roam the state.
Most of the brown bears are found near the coast. Polar bears live along the
shore in the icy Arctic. Polar bears also live on sea ice, and have been spotted
hundreds of miles from the shore. When the ice starts to melt they move toward
the shore. Denali Park is a popular destination to view the bears of Alaska.
