Delaware is a small state with a small population. There are fewer than one million
people in the whole state, and in size Delaware is the second-smallest state. Delaware is just
under 100 miles long and only 35 miles at its widest point. Delaware officially adopted the nickname of
the First State. This nickname was given to them because they were the first to ratify the Constitution.
