New Orleans French Quarter
Louisiana is known as The Bayou State. Its official
nickname is The Pelican State, because of the abundance of the brown
birds along the shoreline. Louisiana is known for its cuisine, jazz and Mardi
Gras festivities. The French Quarter is the oldest section of New Orleans,
Baton Rouge was founded 1718. The capital of Louisiana is Baton Rouge.

The Oak Valley Plantation is
located along the banks of the Mississippi river, in Vacherie, St. James Parish. A double row of Southern
live oaks form a canopy leading to the house. The trees were planted in the 18th century, before the
house was built. The home is built in Greek Revival style. The property is now a National Historic Landmark
for its architecture and landscaping, as well as an enslaved gardener who tended the property and pioneered
grating pecan trees.
