Nebraska is known for its agriculture. Nebraska is one of the
largest exporters of crops in the world. Nebraska is both in the Great Plains
and the Midwest. Nebraska was once called The Great American Desert. Now
the nickname of Nebraska is the Cornhusker State. Corn is Nebraska’s most
important crop. The Platte River runs the entire length of Nebraska. It was
along this river that the pioneers traveled as they made their way to the West.
The largest city in Nebraska is Omaha. The capitol is Lincoln. It is in Lincoln
that you will find the University of Nebraska, which has a world-renowned medical

Chimney Rock is a rock formation found in western Nebraska. Chimney Rock rises almost 300 feet
tall in the Platte River Valley. Chimney Rock holds a special place in history of the western migration.
As the pioneers traveled over the plains of the Oregon trail, the first hint that they were approaching
the Rocky Mountains was the sight of this rocky bluff. Chimney Rock served as a landmark for those traveling
the Oregon Trail, the Mormon Trail, and the California Trail. Chimney Rock is now a National Historic site.
