Nevada is a large desert state. Nevada gets its name from the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the western part of the
state. Nevada is known as the Silver State. The Comstock Lode is the richest known U.S. silver deposit.
Nevada is known as the gambling and entertainment capital of the United States. From the discovery of Comstock
Lode in 1859 to modern day slot machines, people flood to Nevada to enjoy the sunshine and play.
Las Vegas is the biggest city in Nevada, and Carson City is the capital.

Hoover Dam is a 726-foot-high concrete,
hydroelectric dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. Hoover Dam was
built in the 1930’s and originally called Boulder Dam . Hoover Dam was once the
world’s largest hydroelectric power station. Hoover Dam formed Lake Mead, which
is now one of the largest reservoirs in the world.
