West Virginia is in the Appalachian region of the Southern
States. West Virginia became a state during the Civil War. The people on the
eastern side of the state fought for the Confederacy. The western part of the
state supported the Union. This led to the split and the formation of West
Virginia. The nickname of West Virginia is The Mountain State. The
mountain views throughout the state make West Virginia a very scenic state. The
largest city in West Virginia is Charleston. It is also the capital.

in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. The bridge is 1,700 feet long,
and and is one of the longest and highest steel span bridges in the world. The
