West Quoddy Head Lighthouse
Did you know...
Maine is known for its lighthouses. The
Portland Head Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in the state. It goes
back to 1791. The West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is on the easternmost point
of the continental United States. Its bold red- and-white horizontal
stripes makes it easily recognizable. In total there are 57 active lighthouses
in the state of Maine. These beautiful structures are becoming less common due
to the expense to maintain them, and modern navigational tools.
