Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Oklahoma is in the South Central region of
the United States. The nickname of Oklahoma is The Sooner State. This was
taken from the Oklahoma Land Rush participants who started early. At one time
all of Oklahoma was designated a reservation for Native Americans. Today
Oklahoma still has the largest American Indian population of any state.
The largest city in Oklahoma is Oklahoma City. It is also the capital.

The first Land Rush began on April 22, 1889.Oklahoma Land
was part of the area the U.S. Government opened for settlement.
On April 22nd, at high noon, settlers were allowed to rush to
claim plots of free land for homesteading. Oklahoma property was quickly
claimed. By the end of the first day there were 10,000 people in the area that
would become Oklahoma City.
