Did you know ...
There were 3,000 people who had to walk the 1,300
miles from the Missouri River to the Salt Lake Valley pushing and pulling a
handcart. These people did not have the funds to purchase a wagon. These
were some of the Pioneers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. These early Pioneers gathered to the Rocky Mountains seeking religious
freedom and protection. This statue, located on Sat Lake Temple Square, honors
the strength and determination of the poorest of these pioneers.
